Social and Cultural Influence of Tourism
tourism refer to the influences which are created in terms of improvements in the lifestyle changes, infrastructure and social changes in the lives of people. United Kingdom is considered as the 8th biggest destination for tourists in the whole world. In this context, every year, the number of tourists visiting the UK is increasing and it has estimated that the travelers coming to the UK will be further increased in the coming years. On the other hand, as it can be seen in the below figure, the tourism industry is making a huge contribution in the GDP of UK. The principle tourist destination of the country is London, and the Tower of London is identified as the most attracted place of the country. Furthermore, Canterbury Cathedral, Lake District National Park, York Minster and Historic Yorkshire, British Museum, The Roman Baths and Georgian City of Bath, Stonehenge and The Cotswold are some other tourist destination of UK.
Tourism plays a prominent role in the social, cultural and economic development of any country, therefore, it is used as a tool to ensure development in these areas. As indicated above, UK is considered as one of the largest tourists destinations. I think that people visiting the UK are bringing both the positive and negative impacts on the socio-cultural environment of UK. This section is aimed at exploring the positive impacts. People of different races, creeds, religions and ethnicity are residing in the UK, therefore; this makes the culture of the country much diverse.
Cultural exchange is considered as one the beneficial socio-cultural impact of tourism. Moreover, it has been identified that countries are becoming highly globalized and the UK, because of attracting a high number of tourists is considered as a highly globalized nation. Due to advanced technology, the reach of international business is also increasing and it brings many incentives for people to travel other countries and become aware of their values, culture, customs and traditions.
